They flew over by the Tower and looked down at it from above. “What is that?” asked reporter Dave Mauning, zooming his video camera toward the top of the Tower as they approached it. There was a glare of sunlight reflecting off something metallic behind a tarpaulin, but the glare made it impossible to see. He could just make out a bulky shape underneath. Weapons?, he wondered. “Look!” the pilot pointed downwards. A man dressed in military fatigues was visible amidst the greenery, sitting at a heavy machine gun with its barrel elevated upwards. “Quick! Circle ‘round the other side and then let’s get the hell out of here!” cried Mauning. “We’ve seen enough!” “Hey, there are more people on the ground,” said the pilot as he went around to the Tower’s east side again. “Looks like – shit, they’ve got weapons too!” “Wait a sec – are they aiming at us? Just hold on one sec’ while I get the image ... “ the reporter said, his camera still rolling. Suddenly, they were caught in a hail of bullets fired from the vertically sighted machine gun they’d passed over.
